Here now for my third visit, I have enjoyed seven days at the Allegro Hoi An Hotel. The staff has remained mostly the same over this time, they remember me and have truly made me feel at home. It’s a very comfortable boutique hotel with heritage design influences, and with a central location in the heart of Ancient Town, we travelers practically join in the life rhythms of Hoi An citizens.
On arrival many hotel staff members were wearing masks, seemingly to “protect” from the coronavirus. Today I noticed hardly any staff hidden behind masks. There had been fifteen documented cases in Vietnam, about the same as in the US. Many friends and family members strongly urged me not to make this trip but, as is my way, I have rarely listened to the voice of reason.
I have been careful to wash my hands often and have been mindful of my surroundings. Not unlike I always do when traveling in places like southeast Asia. The Vietnamese government banned all flights coming from China two weeks ago, which in turn has greatly reduced the number of tourists. And I have been loving the less crowded streets.
