This is how my day started. A 6:00am walk along the beach. I felt I was settling to island time. The day was looking pretty good. I decided to walk back along the street instead of the beach. It turned out to be a bad idea.
This is the house the apparently some rich that owns astinatravel.com lives with his six little white Pomeranians. They were outside his gate yipping and barking like those little f_ckers always do. One of the little shits bites me. I bitched and yelled at the gardeners, (no owner to be found). I then of course talked to the police. They were no help but did come by my hotel while I was gone.
I got to go to the hospital for rabies shots. This is the start of my day. The taxi driver was super helpful. I got to see first hand how socialized medicine works in what many American would say is a third world country. When we walked into the emergency room to sign in I looked at my watch. It was 8:00AM. Within 5 minutes they had a credit-card looking thing with my name printed. Without sitting down I walked in to see the doctor.
My friend Phil in Anacortes just recently had to get rabies vaccination due to a bite he had gotten. I think he said the bill for the drugs was around $10,000.00. I knew my Blue Cross Insurance was not going to help. I was getting rather concerned. I quickly learned that the series of four rabies shots would be free. The government pays for this. I would have to pay only for the antibiotic shot.
Within 20 minutes and a $40.00 bill I was done. Imagine that happening with the American medical system. I do have to go back to the hospital in seven days for my second round of shots. (oh joy).
So, I had my breakfast back at the hotel in the beach bar. I took a nap and tried to calm my angry mind. After lunch I decided to treat myself to a two hour Spa treatment at a fancy place I saw advertised. The driver from the spa promptly picked me up at my hotel.
I chose a combo treatment that was a one hour massage, a treatment called Shirodara which is warm oil poured on your forehead or third eye, which stimulates the seventh chakra. I have done this before in Thailand, Plano Texas and Vietnam. It can be really relaxing and an emotional release. But keep in mind,,,, how my day started.
The oil was a little TOOOOOO Hot. But the girl adjusted the temperature after I let her know. Then to top it off the final thing was to soak in a hot tub full of herbs, rose petals and leaves.
First, I had to keep my bad leg that had the dog bite outside the tub. Then I closed my eyes to relax and I felt a little sting on the leg hanging out of the tub. It was a little larva / worm of some sort. I set it on the side of the tub. Then I looked down at the floating rose petals and saw two more. I actually laughed out loud as I quickly decided relaxing in a pool of worms was not really working for me.
I hope I survive the rest of my day in Paradise. It really can’t get any worse,,,, can it???
