My dogs and I had a long time to think about my upcoming departure. The reason being, is that I started packing a week before the planned departure date. I had MRI in Dallas for my lower back 6 days before I was scheduled to leave. The trip was put on HOLD… I had a ruptured disc that had been bothering me for weeks. I had a procedure done on Wednesday, postponed my departure by 3 days, and played the waiting game to see the results. I did a treadmill test (self prescribed and doctor approved), on Friday and determined after 2 miles, that I was fit to make the trip. (much to the dismay of my family)
I left Dallas Monday evening at 5:00PM. I had the great fortune to be traveling First Class on British Airlines. They provided me with pajamas and champaign on departure. Directly across the isle from my seat was a fresh bouquet of flowers and a great wine selection for my enjoyment. (Hey Sally, how about the bottle of Kennan wine from California) I kept the pajamas and took a couple of bottles of wine. I hope that was OK. The food was as good as the wine selection with steak cooked medium rare.
After dinner the flight attendants made up my bed with 400 count cotton sheets and when I laid down to sleep and realized I could not have made the trip traveling in any other way. Being able to lay perfectly flat took all the strain off my lower back. I slept and woke up to a traditional British Breakfast. I went to the Admiral’s Club at Heathrow in London and took a nice long hot shower. It was comfortable, but still a 4 hour layover. The flight from London to Warsaw was only a couple of hours, but it seemed like forever by the time I checked into the Marriott. It made for a very LONG day.
I don’t quite understand the design concept of installing an artificial palm tree in the round-about, but I’m sure my friend Dennis at Preserved Treescapes most likely had a hand in doing this.
The strangest sight of all today was at the bar tonight looking up and seeing Dirk on the big screen, playing basketball. He is playing on the German team and just pounding the boards as he always does. For my Dallas friends who follow the Mav’s I would try to see if they are broadcasting in Dallas. I bet Mark Cuban is watching ever game hoping he doesn’t get injured. He is amazing, a gym rat, a German, and lives and breaths the game.
That’s all for now.
