Hi Everyone,

Today is actually Friday, October 22nd. So it looks like I am officially 12 days behind on my journal. (thanks in no small part to my frustrating time with IWeb). When given the choice of work on the website, or play…… Play always won.

Below are a few pictures from Ubud. This is the town featured in the Elisabeth Gilbert book,”Eat, Pray, Love”.

This is my tiny abode that I called home for 4 days in Ubud.

Below is the temple Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave) It was discovered in the 1940’s after being covered up by an earthquake.  It was built in the 9th century.  The mouth of the cave leads into a small underground T-shaped cave with small ledges carved out in the sides used for the priest to meditate.  The three stone phallic carvings are behind me.  Nice shot huh????  Goes with my “nice ” outfit.  When visiting the temples you were given a sarong to cover your legs.  To show respect in the temples you were to not have your legs, knees or shoulders exposed.  The two pools were used for bathing in the holly water.  Men on one side, woman on the other.

I asked our guide about the black and white checkered cloth wraps on carvings and trees.  He explained it was again, a sign of respect.  The Hindu believe that in very large old trees there is God or almighty spirt.  So to honor these massive old trees they give them a “sarong” to cover.  I like that….
