My vacation started with my flight from Dallas. I’m sitting in first class, enjoying a cocktail, and watching the sunset on the starboard side of the plane. After a few drinks the sun was setting on the port side of the plane. I knew something was up. Or in this case down. We were headed north to San Antonio after the generator went out. After getting on another 25 year old MD-90 I was back headed south for Mexico.

Here is a review I wrote on my hotel that I arrived at around 1:00AM:
The first time I had a problem with this Westin Hotel was a few years ago. I booked it directly on their website. I cancelled a day and a half before on line and got a confirmation. I then found out they had a 28 hour cancellation. They charged my credit card. I went all the way to the top of Starwood Hotels trying to get some credit. SPG told me they operated as an independent and they could not help even though I am a SPG Preferred Gold Member.

This time (Feb. 16, 2011) I found the hotel to still be operated with rudeness. When I checked in I showed my Starwood Gold Preferred card and asked if there was room could I have a room on the SPG floor. The manager said since I booked on Hotwire that I could not. I have booked many rooms all over the world on Hotwire and have always been upgraded at no charge if there is space. That is why I have I love Starwood Hotels. They give great service. But not the Westin Hotel in Puerta Vallarta.

The front desk was consistently rude. The mirror in the bathroom looked like it had been used to snort cocaine (finger prints, smudges and scratches.)
The worst part was when I left, the bellman told me that I was to pay him 100 pesos for the taxi fare. When I got to my destination, the taxi driver said I owed him the 100 pesos. Not wanting to be ripped off by the Westin bellman I decided to pay an additional 100 pesos to go back to the hotel and get my money. We pulled up and I asked for my money back. The bellman pulled the 100 peso from his billfold and gave it to me. Since I would still be out 200 pesos to go back to the pier, I went and talked with the front desk.
The managers finally came and said, “there must have been a misunderstanding.”  I wanted them to pay for the additional fare. They only gave the driver 50 pesos, which made him mad. I felt sorry for the guy and paid him the rest of his regular fare.

Bottom line, don’t stay at this old dirty hotel. The swimming pools look pretty in photos, but there is no beach, expensive prices everywhere.
